Richard Morden was born in Melbourne in 1972. His early artworks were mainly abstract compositions in crayon, chalk and finger paint, which brought much family acclaim and were frequently exhibited on the fridge. Encouraged by this early success he started his life long obsession with creating imagery, using any medium that came to hand.

In the early nineties Richard studied finished art, which back then was all about obsessively accurate ink illustrations, typography, paste up and printing instructions. This gave him just enough knowledge to start his real education in graphic arts, working for graphics guru Grant Gittus.

Armed with enthusiasm and experience Richard went on to work in a number of roles, entailing a wide variety of projects from compiling annual reports, or designing Hungry Jacks toys to writing puzzle books for Qantas in flight entertainment.

These days most of Richard's work is for the educational and trade publishing industries. He has illustrated picture books, text books, children's encyclopedias, book covers, posters and more.

His first picture book Ziggy & Zrk and the Meteor of Doom was published in 2004 by Little Hare Books and received an honour award in the 2005 Crichton award for Children's Book Illustration. He also wrote and illustrated another puzzle book Peril Space Tours in 2006, which was also published by Little Hare Books. He recently illustrated the Captain Cal series which was written by Jan Dallimore and published by Black Dog Books.
